What type of material is put on top of the chimney for a cover other than metals?

Question by Ritasurvivor: What type of material is put on top of the chimney for a cover other than metals?
I'm talking about a piece of hard stuff, like asbestos or slate put in between the top layers of brick. On top of the piece there were several bricks put up one each corner and then a brick top over all of it? Where can I find something? Hurricane Rita destroyed the piece so I don't have it any longer.
