Is asbestos siding safe?

Question by tropics: Is asbestos siding safe?
I just bought my 1st house about 3 months ago and just the other day someone mentioned to me that my house had Asbestos siding. I had no idea what this was so i looked it up and my jaw dropped when i read that it causes lung disease and cancer. Is this something i should be worried about? I have 2 kids and wouldnt want to jeopardize their health. And also just the other day my Ins carrier told me they were raising up the premium because of this
